INDISPENSABLE

There is an old saying my mother passed down to me many years ago; “ Better the Devil you know, that the one you are yet to meet.” Coming from an Afro-Latino background, anything associated with the Devil was sure to make an impression, and this old proverb still hits home whenever I have to make a decision involving a third party, whether it be professional or personal.

You see, in an age where options seem to be endless, the one thing I continuously noticed drastically diminishing in our society is consistency, and the turnover rate in careers, marriage, and relationships overall just seems to continue to grow.

The Covid Pandemic brought many questions to the forefront; quality of life being a dominant one. To be forced to sit at home, allowed many the opportunity to reevaluate what’s truly important, but it also presented a false sense of reality to some, in regards to workplace and home life. Many saw it as an opportunity to venture off from current situations they were not happy with, but what many failed to ask was:

What did I do contribute to such state of unhappiness? After all, we are all responsible for our emotional wellbeing, and being in relationships with good people who are humble and appreciative play a crucial role, so take your time and do your research before jumping into one.

That being said, your contributions to a company or a relationship, determine the level of recognition you rightfully deserve. Being recognized is a key element of happiness, and all of us can easily fall into a state of discord when our efforts are not appreciated. However, you are more likely to be recognized and appreciated in any relationship in life, if you do two basic things:

1) Become an indispensable part of said relationship by adding unprecedented value.

2) Don’t complain if your initial efforts are not recognized at the time of your liking.

Like everything in life, it may take some time for anyone to truly appreciate what you bring to the table, especially when there are many moving parts.

The more you do to contribute to a relationship, the more you add to your value. The more valuable you are, the more indispensable you become. The more indispensable you become, the higher the possibility of recognition, which will ultimately usher you into doors with amazing possibilities.

Your value determines your worth, but your attitude determines your longevity. Impulsiveness leads to bad decisions, and we must pause and carefully analyze what our contributions are to any negative situation. Perhaps once you do, you may just realize that the Devil you know is better than the one yet to meet, and digging internally for that truth to make the right decision, may perhaps give you more insight before making an unnecessary leap.

Concatenation is a necessity for sustainability.

By Sigrid Martínez Picado - ESG Department

“No man is an island…” is one of my favorite quotes by John Donne. I must admit it summarizes the main thing I believe humanity is all about; we are a social species, like many other mammals. Regardless of that fact many individuals and organizations keep thinking that they have everything it takes to make it all on their own, of course, there are people that can perform in many areas almost flawlessly, but the clue word in that last sentence is “almost”.

Work is a constant perfectible task that can be improved by the concatenation of efforts from different fields. It doesn't matter if you are a Non-Governmental Organization, a million-dollar corporation, or a Minority-Owned Corporation that ranges in the Small to Medium Enterprises area.

In order to keep growing a business sustainably, we must join forces and redefine the necessary paths to promote structural change and regeneration.

Any group trying to achieve a goal must collaborate, in soccer, you have to play your position but be ready to back up your team members whenever they request it, to try to score.

To keep on going with the concatenation and the soccer, we must see things from the outside sometimes, gain perspective; and that we do through meetings, training, and one on ones, in other words, play and replay the last “games” to find and identify possible things that can be done differently to promote a better result.

Part of the concatenation is vulnerability, showing yourself with openness to allow others to help you grow and improve, this is a benefit/benefit situation, where all parties bond and expand their capacities, capabilities, and future in general.

Our Month in a Few Words

May has shown us the beginning of new projects and we are delighted to share.

1. Walking the Talk

2. Equality Month

June is an important month to raise awareness, share knowledge, demolish taboos, and erase intolerance and hate. It is a fantastic month to increase love, and acceptance and celebrate people for their humanity.

We wish to raise the Rainbow flag and salute the LGBTQ+ community, our hope is for the people to back up their collaborators, neighbors, customers, and all the people, in general, to love whomever they choose without shame or fear.

3. Consortium

In search of continuing with the company's effort to support the Global Goals Damian, our CVO has recently joined the Consortium Miami. This is a group of interested parties in upgrading the inequalities that the area of Miami is currently facing.

The work of this group is just starting and we want to share that our goal is to create strong Partnerships that bring Prosperity to the People of the Planet and give them the well-deserved Peace they need. We care about Sustainable Development.

4. #OnlyOneEarth

That is what we have, only one Planet Earth, are we all aware? June is an important month and we hope to nudge you to take action and help flip the script.

In 1973, the United Nations Environmental Programme started the celebration of World Environment Day on June 5th, this is an effort to increase the attention to issues and the need for action towards diminishing the human impact on the world.

Every year there is a theme on which the actions are focused, and this year we are repeating the first slogan used in 1973 “Only One Earth”. This is an Emergency call to all of us; our response to this call has not been significant enough within the last five decades, and it is time to shift and make the necessary adjustments to provide us with a sustainable future.

5. Emancipation Day Juneteenth Infependence Day

This Sunday, June 19th we commemorate the 159th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, an opportunity to celebrate African American Culture and all the achievements our people have reached through the years.

The words of the late Chadwick Boseman resonate in our ears, his message keeps growing stronger as the requirement to play a role in the transformation of our society is needed daily, “Understanding history is one of many ways to break the cycle. Lift up/amplify Black voices. Support Black-owned businesses. Reach back. Mentor.”

This year the Miami area will be celebrating this event in many different ways with talks to promote freedom, dance performances, music, and of course food.

Now June has started filled with the colors of Summer, the Cancer is happy and we ratify our support to the Sustainable Development Goals by celebrating World Environment Day and Oceans Day at the beginning of the month, and of course, we keep pushing Refilling as an option to reduce residues an important action for us to keep in mind!
